The problem

The sticker price is not the price you pay.

Fees, taxes and add-ons stack up at the bottom of the quote, often when you're tired and ready to sign. Meanwhile the conversation keeps drifting to the monthly payment.

Marty, the cartoon salesman from our videos, winking.

“Those add-ons are already installed on the car.”Marty, our (fictional) salesman. The playbook has your reply.

Try it now

Watch the out-the-door price move.

Type a car price and tap the add-ons a dealer might put on the quote. This is a quick estimate; the full calculator in the kit goes line by line.

Defaults are examples: 7% tax and APR are not quotes; the ~$510 doc fee is the national average2.

Estimate only, not a quote. It assumes tax on the price, doc fee and add-ons, and a fixed-rate monthly loan on the out-the-door price minus your down payment. Your state's rules, rebates, trade-in and lender terms will change the result. Not legal or financial advice.

When they say…

You'll know exactly what to say.

Three of the 13 replies in the playbook. Calm, polite, and always back to the out-the-door price.

  • They say“What monthly payment are you looking for?”

You say“I'm not discussing monthly payments. I'm only negotiating the out-the-door price. What's your best out-the-door number?”

  • They say“This price is only good today.”

You say“If it's a good price today, it will still be a good price tomorrow. Please put it in writing with an expiration date and I'll decide by then.”

  • They say“Let me go talk to my manager.”

You say“Sure. When you come back, please bring the out-the-door price in writing. If it's not there, I'll head out and we can continue by email.”

Maya and Marty are the fictional characters from our videos.

How it works

Three steps. Mostly from your couch.

  1. 1

    Before you go

Get pre-approved, then send the email template to a few dealers asking for an itemized out-the-door price in writing.

  2. 2

    Compare the offers

Enter up to 3 quotes. Compare totals, decline the add-ons you don't want, and see what each payment really costs.

  3. 3

    At the dealership

Keep the calculator open on your phone, follow the order in the playbook and run the F&I checklist before you sign.

Fair question

“Isn't this free on YouTube?”

A lot of good advice is. What it isn't: organized, in one place, and ready to use while you're sitting across the desk.

Questions

Good to know before you buy.

Anything else? Write to [SUPPORT EMAIL].

How do I receive it?

Right after payment you're taken to your download page with four files: the calculator (blank and a filled-in example), the 24-page playbook and a one-page Start Here guide. Stripe also emails you a receipt.

If you close the page before downloading, email [SUPPORT EMAIL] with the email you used at checkout and we'll send your files.

Can I use it on my phone at the dealership?

Yes. Upload the calculator to Google Drive once and open it in the free Google Sheets app (iPhone or Android) to type the dealer's numbers as you go. The playbook is a PDF that opens on any phone.

Do I need Excel?

No. The calculator is an Excel (.xlsx) file that also works in the free Google Sheets (the steps are inside the file), Apple Numbers and LibreOffice.

Isn't this free on YouTube?

Much of the advice is out there for free, and that's great. Here you get all of it in one place, in the order you'll use it, plus a calculator that's ready to use at the dealership, so you don't have to do the math or hunt for the right video while you're at the desk.

Will it save me money?

We can't promise any amount, and we won't. Every car, dealer, state and credit situation is different. What the kit does is show your real out-the-door price, line by line, so you can compare offers, spot add-ons you don't want and decide before you sign.

Does it work in my state?

Yes, because you enter your own numbers: your sales tax, title and registration and fees (they're on the dealer's written quote), and you answer three Yes/No questions about your state's tax rules. The calculator doesn't look up rates for you. Fees, taxes and rules vary by state.

Is it for new or used cars?

Both. The calculator works for any purchase price, and the playbook includes a two-page used-car checklist.

Does it work for leases?

The kit is built for buying a car, with cash or a loan. It doesn't calculate lease payments.

Can't I just cancel within 3 days if I change my mind?

Usually not. According to the FTC, its Cooling-Off Rule does not give you a 3-day right to cancel a car bought at a dealership3. That's why the kit is about getting the numbers right before you sign.

Is this legal or financial advice?

No. This kit is an educational tool and is not legal or financial advice. For questions about a specific contract or loan, talk to a qualified professional in your state.

Is this a subscription?

No. It's a one-time payment of $12 in U.S. dollars, and the files are yours to keep. Nothing is shipped; it's a digital download.
